Food, Drink & Agriculture
Aberdeen’s food, drink & agriculture powerhouse
Food, drink and agriculture are central to the North-east economy, employing over 22,000 people and generating 20% of Scotland’s industry output. Rooted in farming and fishing, the region is home to Aberdeen Angus beef, Europe’s largest seafood landings at Peterhead and Fraserburgh, and world-renowned food and drink brands.
Driving growth, innovation & sustainability
The sector aims to double output and exports by 2030, grow turnover 5% annually, and boost productivity by 25% by 2025. Key projects like the Seafood Transformation Project will accelerate growth, build new capacity, enhance sustainability, and drive innovation. Seafood processing alone adds £100m in value each year and supports 4,000 jobs.
Where provenance meets experience
Producers showcase their craft at the annual Provenance Festival, celebrating local, sustainable food and drink. Agritourism is also growing, with dozens of farm-based businesses across Aberdeenshire.
Innovating the future of food and drink
The £27m ONE SeedPod hub is the new centre for food and drink innovation, offering state-of-the-art kitchens, business support, and collaborative space. Backed by regional and national investment, it will inspire the next generation of producers and strengthen the North East’s global reputation.
